Science & Social Studies Options by Grade

Science and Social Studies, along with Math and ELA, make up the 4 core subjects. You may decide to use our Math and ELA recommendations and decide to take advantage of a local class or group for science or history. Perhaps your children enjoy unit studies or subscription boxes in these areas. You may have a favorite online course you use. Parents need to spend their time wisely and maximize time spent on direct instruction. Often, math and ELA are areas that benefit most from higher parent/student interaction.

For those who would like suggestions for science and social studies options that meet California grade-level standards, you may choose from the listings below. It is always a good idea to ask your specific Charter School if these are acceptable. Savvas courses include an online component with your Teacher Edition and additional resources. These include Elevate science and myWorld social studies. Discover! Curriculum is all printed resources. Both include a variety of activities for students, assessments, and answers. Each course shown is a single option. You select one, not both.

For kindergarten social studies, we suggest using Elevate and myWorld, both featuring vibrant, full-color student worktexts. Each day’s worktext page includes a short reading passage followed by questions to answer, with a convenient answer key printed at the back for quick checking.
