Textbook, Practical Geometry 1
Textbook, and ½”
Gridded Notebook for one year of math instruction. Each daily lesson is 30 minutes, which
includes parent-child interaction and independent work. At this level, children
are guided toward more abstract thinking as their mathematical thinking is
strengthened. The goal is to continue to help children become proficient in

Publisher's Description of Charlotte Mason Elementary Arithmetic Book 5 with Practical Geometry 1 and Grid Notebook
You and your child are sure to enjoy these simple, lively elementary math lessons that nurture mathematical thinking and help your student advance in understanding decimals and fractions, working with factors, and both greatest and least common measures. Your student will also continue work with drawing to scale along with measures in decimals and fractions, using both the US standard and metric systems.
With Book 5, the recommended schedule changes from every day to four days per week. For the fifth day, a hands-on geometry lesson should be completed from Charlotte Mason Practical Geometry, Part 1. These weekly geometry lessons give the student experience with mathematical tools such as a compass and protractor and guide the student in understanding foundational ideas in geometry. This hands-on approach develops the student’s comfort with the mechanics of tools, drawings, and geometrical concepts before formal geometry and proofs are introduced. We suggest that 5th grade students work on arithmetic Monday through Thursday, with Friday reserved for practical geometry.
Elementary Mathematics Book 5 from Simply
Charlotte Mason offers parent-child interactive lessons with a greater
focus on independent work. Lesson length is 30 minutes, with 5 minutes of
dedicated oral mental math expected. Concrete objectives are used less, as
students are guided toward more abstract understanding. At this level, the
authors recommend that Elementary Mathematics Book 5 and the Charlotte Mason
Practical Geometry Book 1 be used concurrently, with arithmetic taught four
days per week and geometry one day per week. The course begins with a review of
previously learned material before introducing new concepts. A free placement
test is available for children new to Elementary Mathematics.
Parents will appreciate the “open and go” daily lessons and straightforward
instructions. A ½”
Gridded Notebook is recommended and available separately or in a convenient package with
the Charlotte Mason
Arithmetic Book 5. Optional Number Sentence
Cards are recommended for children who need additional practice with math
facts.
