What is so Great about Games?

Hi, my name is Marsha, and I am one of the newest additions to the Rainbow Resource Family. My special interest is board games, and I enjoy discovering new games, learning how to play them and writing about them. I love helping others enhance their board game experiences.

Do you love board games as much as I do? If so, then you probably love the adventure that they bring to your table. What are some great things about playing board games? Here are some of the things that I love most about them:

  1. They can enhance shared leisure time with friends and family. Since they are often interactive, games are a great way to initiate conversation and create shared memories.
  2. Games can be a teaching tool by helping to develop skillsets such as logic, planning, strategic thinking, cooperation and, of course, good sportsmanship.
  3. There are so many different types of games! Some have beautiful themes such as National Parks and wildlife. They also use many different game mechanics, such as worker placement, tile laying, deck building, party games, roll-and-writes, and area control.
  4. There are games that play at different levels of difficulty and age levels.
  5. Games are fun!!!
  6. With so many new games being created each year, there are endless possibilities for you to explore and find new favorites.

Going Forward

In future Game Corners, we will talk about different game topics of interest, such as game mechanics, how to learn games that have confusing manuals, how to choose games that you will enjoy as well as featuring distinctive games.

We’re excited to be adding lots of new games each year. I’m looking forward to exploring these with you.

Is there a board game topic that you would like me to highlight or feature? What’s your favorite game? What game brings back good memories for you? Please feel free to email me at marsha@rainbowresource.com.

See you next time! ~Marsha
