Description

The sixth edition of the World History Student Text from BJU Press is an updated, full-color, engaging, one credit high school study in world history. With this new edition the text has been reformatted and made more visually appealing with additional infographics, full-color photographs, maps, charts, and primary sources. Expanded content and the rearranging of material make this course not compatible with previous editions. Beginning with creation, students discover history through civilizations interaction through pivotal events like wars, global and economic shifts, geography, politics, and religious movements. Studying through these pivotal events through Ancient Greece, the Byzantine Era, the Reformation, colonization, the era of revolutions (French, American, Industrial), into the 21st century, and looking forward (Agenda 2030). Bonus content throughout the text include 27 biographies highlighting historical figures from Polycarp to Adolf Hitler; Connections to Today, connecting these historical people and events to today’s world; Hero or Villain is an engaging way for students to critically reflect and draw out their own decisions on these individuals; History at Its Source presents primary sources to read (full text located in the Activities Book); along with other intentionally curated content.

Each of the 24 chapters offers Guiding Questions for students to reflect on as they read. Text is interspersed with beautiful graphics, maps, informative graphs and charts, occasional critical reflection questions, and intentional connections with people and events of history and today. Each chapter ends with a Chapter Summary, highlighting key points and vocabulary from each section. This would make a wonderful study tool for quizzes and tests for this course. Chapter Review Questions round out each chapter with Making Connection, multiple choice, and Thinking Critically questions. Answers to these questions are found in the Teacher Edition books. These questions are different than the ones presented in the Student Activities book. The Student Edition traces major events, civilizations, and cultures throughout history, including early empires, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Reformation, and the Enlightenment. The course explores civilizations across Africa, Asia, and the pre-colonization Americas, along with empires in Africa, India, and Asia.

Through document-based analysis, historical research, digital literacy, and 21st-century skills, your child will develop a deeper understanding of the past and its relevance to the present. Each chapter includes reading checks, critical-thinking questions, and review activities to support comprehension and reflection.

BJU Press 6th Edition of World History for high school students provides the same great Christian worldview perspective with some updated content. Two (2) brand new chapters have been added with more coverage of early Eastern countries (China, India, and parts of Africa). The student text is more visually appealing and better organized with infographics, maps, more images, primary sources, charts, and better teacher support. Through this Christian perspective, students will be exploring key events throughout history from Creation to 2024 (even looking at the 2030 Agenda). Students will survey the world story through the lens of justice, power, community, the environment, and world religions. World events are not the only frame of study; 27 biographies are included throughout—from Qin Shi Huang and Polycarp to George Whitefield and Vladimir Lenin. An emphasis on critical thinking/thinking strategically is evident throughout. The text asks students to make inferences, develop their thoughts and opinions on different aspects of the rise and fall of civilizations along with the influence of Christianity throughout the world.

The Home School Kit includes the student text and activities book, teacher's edition, tests and answer key, and the student activities answer key. Each of the 24 chapters in the Student Text follow a chronological view of history from country to country—their power dynamics, economic standing, and how religion has influenced civilization. The Teacher Edition is a two-volume set that also comes with the Teacher Edition Companion book for a quick reference of each lesson. Teacher Editions contain extensive lesson materials with directions, helps, and resources. Teacher books also come with the Teacher Edition Companion guide for quick reference. Students’ work is documented in the consumable Student Activities book. Short reading passages followed by SOAPSTone questions, map work, culture connections, chapter reviews, picture studies, and more. Consumable chapter tests are found in the Assessments book.
