The Math-U-See Beta DVD provides parents with an
introduction to the MUS four-step methodology before transitioning to the
instructional lessons. Each teaching segment is 5-8 minutes in length and focuses
on Mr. Demme, who explains and demonstrates the lessons on a large whiteboard
with magnetic manipulatives (or drawings). Lessons are clearly explained and
easy to follow. The instructional content of the DVD is the same instruction
that is included with the Math-U-See
Beta Online Instruction Videos. DVDs are made available for your
convenience and are not required with the purchase of the Beta Set (with the
Integer Blocks), Beta Set
(no Integer Blocks), or the Math-U-See Beta Online

The Beta DVD features the videos instructors need to teach this level.
In this level, you and your student will confidently explore multiple digit addition and subtraction while mastering place value.
The Math-U-See Beta DVD is ideal for instructors who already own the Instruction Manual, and Integer Block Kit, and whose students have all the necessary student materials including the Student Workbook and Tests booklet.
Mastery of place value and using it to add/subtract-specifically multi-digit addition and subtraction. Additional topics include telling and writing time by hours and minutes, adding and subtracting US currency, measuring and estimating length with inches/feet and centimeters/meters, comparison of numbers and lengths, perimeter of polygon, and interpretation of data in plots and graphs.
All lessons follow a similar
format – watch the DVD lesson (parent first and then child/parent), work
through lesson examples in the instruction manual together, and complete
worksheets. Lessons conclude with a test. Cumulative unit tests are scheduled
regularly to assure students retain previous teaching. The course concludes
with a final test that covers all concepts taught.
