Publisher Description:

Whether your students are learning in a brick-and-mortar school or a homeschool or online, you teachers and parents know how important logic is -- but that doesn't make the technical aspects of the subject any easier (in fact the fundamental nature of the subject makes it even more intimidating!). We've painstakingly designed Introductory Logic with that tension in mind: you'll get the benefit of our teachers' years of teaching experience, making ingraining the fundamentals of logic in your students as painless (and rewarding!) as possible.
Anybody can learn from Introductory Logic. The whole series takes advantage of a brand new, clean, easy-to-read layout, lots of margin notes for key points and further study, a step-by-step modern method, and exercises for every lesson (plus review questions and exercises for every unit).
More importantly, anybody can teach Introductory Logic. Here are the features that make the Teacher Edition for Introductory Logic the obvious choice for educators new to logic, no matter where they teach:
  • A daily lesson schedule for completing Introductory Logic in a semester or a year-long course.
  • Answers to all exercises, review questions, review exercises, quizzes, and tests in the order they are taught.
  • Contains the entire Student Edition text -- with the same page numbers as the Student Edition! No more flipping back and forth between answer keys and textbook.
  • Detailed daily lesson plans for the entire textbook explain each lesson's
    • daily Student Objectives,
    • Special Notes,
    • step-by-step Teaching Instructions with bolded terms, advice, and more examples,
    • Assignments for each lesson,
    • Optional Exercises for further exploration and integration.

Every person should have a course in logic at some point. It is important for children to be prepared to argue logically, defend their positions, and spot fallacies. The only thing more frustrating than knowing your opponent is wrong is to have to combat a well-constructed, logical argument when you are unable. There is no real defense against sound logic and thinking. Many logic books are written at too high a level for younger students to comprehend. Canon Press says this course is written for primary and secondary students. Cathy Duffy, however, says the content is beyond typical high-school-level material. I have looked through this book and found it simpler to use and understand than the course I had in high school. I would hope that my 12 year olds could handle it without much difficulty. It is a complete and fairly rigorous course, and is from a Christian perspective. The course builds from basic to more complex, giving students the tools they need, with good examples along the way. Exercises teach logical statements, truth and validity, universals and particulars, categorized relationships, syllogism, logical fallacy, symbolic logic, and much more. The newest version of the course includes 36 lessons (with 39 consumable exercises). Definitions of important terms, key points, and caution signs regarding common errors are set apart in the margins of the text. The Student Text begins with a section on defining terms, which lays the foundation for the lessons that follow. The book has a new cover, perfect binding, and has perforated exercise pages for easy removal. The Teacher Edition includes both full-year and semester lesson schedules; answers to all exercises, review exercises, quizzes and tests; the entire content of the Student Text; and detailed daily lesson plans with teacher's notes. The DVD Set includes lessons from Jim Nance from Logos School, who introduces 20 lessons that coordinate with the textbook. Jim has taught logic for years and co-authored the book, so his instruction is helpful. The Homeschool Package contains the Student Text, Teacher Edition, Test & Quiz Packet, and DVD Set. Make Introductory Logic one of their required courses and arm them for battle!

Borrowed curriculum from a friend minus the teacher guide. Worked ok until we got to the chapter review questions. The answer key doesn't include answers to these, so I'm purchasing the teachers guide myself.

Do u need the Teachers text if u buy the dvd?
User on May 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: yes, the teachers text has the answers to all the exercise problems and it has the tests and test answers. The DVDs are just the lessons taught by Vance. I didn't always use the dvds but I needed the teachers text all the time
Do u need the Teachers text if u buy the dvd?
A shopper on May 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you will probably want the Teacher's as it provides the answers to the student text exercises while the DVD provides lesson/lectures.

The Teacher's Edition includes daily lesson schedules; answers to all exercises, review exercises, quizzes and tests; the entire content of the Student Text; and detailed daily lesson plans. The DVD Set includes lessons from Jim Nance.
Does teacher edition duplicate student page's of introductory logic to avoid having to buy 2 books?
A shopper on Jun 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You do need to buy both the teacher and student editions of these Logic books because the student pages that are in the teacher's edition have the correct answers filled in already. The only way around showing the answer to the student would be to write out your own copy of the student book without the answers. Who has time for that?

This book is great. The lessons are broken down into manageable portions and covered thoroughly. The layout is good and content is comprehensive. The teacher edition also includes quizzes and tests (with answers), while the student edition only has exercises. The only negative thing for me is that the quizzes/tests have the answers printed on them, so I have to copy and white-out before I can give tests to students since I did not buy the separate test/quiz packet. The kids are enjoying it and learning more than they think. I am using it to teach the Dialectic (or middle school) level age group in a private homeschool co-op academy.
