Publisher's Description of Introductory Logic: The Fundamentals of Thinking Well Teacher Edition 5ED
Whether your students are learning in a brick-and-mortar school or a homeschool or online, you teachers and parents know how important logic is -- but that doesn't make the technical aspects of the subject any easier (in fact the fundamental nature of the subject makes it even more intimidating!). We've painstakingly designed Introductory Logic with that tension in mind: you'll get the benefit of our teachers' years of teaching experience, making ingraining the fundamentals of logic in your students as painless (and rewarding!) as possible. Anybody can learn from Introductory Logic. The whole series takes advantage of a brand new, clean, easy-to-read layout, lots of margin notes for key points and further study, a step-by-step modern method, and exercises for every lesson (plus review questions and exercises for every unit). More importantly, anybody can teach Introductory Logic. Here are the features that make the Teacher Edition for Introductory Logic the obvious choice for educators new to logic, no matter where they teach:
  • A daily lesson schedule for completing Introductory Logic in a semester or a year-long course.
  • Answers to all exercises, review questions, review exercises, quizzes, and tests in the order they are taught.
  • Contains the entire Student Edition text -- with the same page numbers as the Student Edition! No more flipping back and forth between answer keys and textbook.
  • Detailed daily lesson plans for the entire textbook explain each lesson's
    • daily Student Objectives,
    • Special Notes,
    • step-by-step Teaching Instructions with bolded terms, advice, and more examples,
    • Assignments for each lesson,
    • Optional Exercises for further exploration and integration.

Introductory Logic from Canon Press provides an excellent introduction to informal and formal logic. Helping students identify fallacies and logically think through them and debate or argue well, this course is well-constructed and easy to teach. There are five units, divided into 40 lessons, that may be taught in one semester (daily lessons) or two semesters (2-3x a week). Units cover terms and definitions, statements, syllogisms and validity, arguments, and informal fallacies. The course is a complete and fairly rigorous course and is from a Christian perspective. Building from basic to more complex, Introductory Logic gives students the tools they need, with good examples along the way. Definitions of important terms, key points, and caution signs regarding common errors are set apart in the margins of the text.

The Student Text begins with a section on defining terms, which lays the foundation for the lessons that follow. Exercise pages are perforated for easy removal. The Teacher Edition includes both full-year and one-semester lesson schedules; answers to all exercises, review exercises, quizzes and tests; the entire content of the Student Text; and detailed daily lesson plans with teacher's notes. An optional DVD Set includes engaging lessons from Brian Kohl who has taught at the high school and college levels. The video lessons are lively, following the general lesson outline, although lectures offer information and examples that are somewhat different. These are excellent options for independent learning. We offer two packages for your convenience: Complete Program with the Text, Teacher Edition, and Test/Quiz Packet; and a Homeschool Package with all the components of the Complete Program and the helpful DVD Set.
