This resource equips students to focus on Ancient History
while applying the IEW® writing method. This 6th edition of Ancient
History-Based Writing Lessons features 30 lessons for grades 4-7. This
course applies the unique writing method taught in Teaching Writing Structure
and Style. Information on applying MLA format in essays is also provided.
Students will read source texts on topics from ancient
history: the wonders of the ancient world, Greek Myths, Roman engineering, the
people of ancient Asia, and much more. The course also provides weekly
vocabulary words (via free downloadable cards) as well as literature
suggestions. To build a complete language arts, add literary analysis to the
recommended choices—or add your own. Also consider what additional skills may
be needed to meet your student’s needs. Appendix IV offers picture book options
if you want to include younger students on this theme: Cleopatra or The
Gilgamesh Trilogy. Options for
grades 4-7 or 6-8 include books like A Place in the Sun; The Secrets of Vesuvius;
Who Was (Alexander
the Great; Julius
Caesar; and King
Tut). Suggested for Grades 5-8 are Detectives in Togasand the Mystery of
the Roman Ransom. For grades 6-8, suggestions include The Bronze Bow; The Golden Goblet; and Mara, Daughter of the Nile.
Components of this edition are not compatible with any
previous edition. A blue sheet at the front of the Student Book and the Teacher
Manual describe how to access online resources including the vocabulary cards,
checklists, exemplars, and more. The Student Bookis
consumable but is reproducible (for single family purchasers).
