Throughout this level, 4 animals will guide your students (a crow, squirrel, monkey, and racoon) to new grammar skills. While students are encouraged to color these animals, overall, the number of drawings in this text is decreased from Grade 1. Grammar lessons start out with concepts like silent e, consonant blends, diphthongs, and identifying nouns and verbs. First, prepositions are introduced and then prepositional phrases. Punctuation will include using periods, question marks, using commas after yes and no, and a question mark. By end of the year, students will know noun, verb, prepositional phrases, articles, and adjective. Terms of address (Mr. and Miss, etc.), using a dictionary, alphabetical order, abbreviations of days and months, reading sounds with simple diacritical marks above vowels (and also writing them), opposites, compound words, adding plurals, counting syllables, homonyms, antonyms, synonyms, and adding suffixes are covered. Students will practice writing sentences correctly and learn about fragments. At first, they'll write a couple sentences about simple pictures. Sample writing projects include writing a brief paragraph (How to Make a Jam Sandwich; How to Go on a Trip) and a brief story or Write 10 things you can do to help people this summer. Includes one copy of the 6 student tests for the year (with no answers). Consumable, 132 pgs, pb. ~ Ruth
