for Using Language Well Book 3 contains all the details you need to
customize lessons in the consumable
student book. Grammar learning emphasizes verb study (including helping,
linking, and tenses. In addition, students will learn proper nouns, pronouns,
articles and antecedents. In dictation, you may choose to assign up to the
whole passage or two to three sentences. While material is geared to about a
fifth grade reading level, this guide provides the tools to tailor to your
student, particularly in day’s final dictation. Once your student is fluent in
giving oral narrations, they will transition to writing narrations. At this
level, the goal is two written narrations each week. The included rubrics help both
you and your student evaluate written narrations. 160 pgs, spiral-bound, softcover.

Level 3 of Using Language Well focuses
on the skills of grammar, spelling, and writing is taught through dictation. Students
should be able to read and write at a fifth-grade level. Students will begin
looking for usage patterns in capitalization and punctuation. Parts of speech instruction
begins at this level and will continue in Using Language Well Book 4. A placement
test is available to help select the best starting place. For spelling, you
can customize dictation to three levels of ability: working on essentials;
encouraging steady growth; or challenging a stronger speller. Writing
assignments can be selected from your student’s reading from other school
subjects such as history or science. At this level, as a goal in writing
skills, students should be able to complete dictations of 2-3 sentences and
complete two written narrations weekly. Scripture is taken from the ESV.
Rubrics help target correction more carefully. Directions are in the student
book; answers and teaching aids are in the teacher book. ~ Ruth
