It is a monumental occasion when your child picks up their first book and reads it—truly reads it! Delightful Reading Level 3: From Words to Books from Simply Charlotte Mason gets young readers to this great milestone! Progress at your student’s pace through the lessons. Lessons typically take 10-15 minutes. Lessons may take longer for some students, if this is the case stop at 15 minutes, take break, then come back to the material for another 15 minutes, and end for the day. Very little extra materials are needed for this level. Your box comes with the Teacher Book, A Delightful Reader reader, the My Word Book logbook, and 6 decks of word and letter cards.
There is a total of 46 lessons over 4 different reading selections. Remember to take these lessons at your students’ pace. To add more literature exposure/practice, it is recommended to add the Pathway Reading readers (First Steps, Days Go By, and More Days Go By) as you progress through these lessons.
The Teacher Book is a blend of directions and script. Good conversation flows from time spent with your learner and spending time building, reading, and documenting words. Each lesson is devoted to one line of text, from the A Delightful Reader book, and time is dedicated to making observations and connections with words (e.g. rain>pain>vain>brain>chain> sprain> twain etc.). Teacher guidance, notes, and encouragement are found in the margins. As students learn that words come together to make sentences and tell stories, they begin using the words they are studying to make their own sentences and tell their own stories.
A Delightful Reader contains the reading selections and More Sentence I Can Read—sentences based on the words from the lesson. The words from these reading selections, along with the new words being discovered, will be documented in the student’s My Word Book.
Organized and stored in the Reading Kit box are 6-decks of flash cards. Each deck has its own distinguishable classic artwork on one side for easy sorting—and words, letters, and blends on the flip side to study and use for games.

Upon completing this level, you will have a better understanding of whether your student needs more instructional material or if your student needs to gain fluency. For fluency it is recommended to continue reading through the Pathway Reading readers (Busy Times, More Busy Times, New Friends, More New Friends). ~Rebecca
