SuperBooks is a delightful, phonics-based reading
program that combines engaging storybooks with a vintage feel, systematic
instruction, and hands-on activities. Created by veteran teacher and reading
specialist JoAnne Nelson, it reflects decades of classroom experience and
research in the science of reading.
Each of the 40 SuperBooks features fun, charming stories
that hook young readers from the very beginning. Even the earliest books
include consonant blends, multi-syllable words, and occasional rebuses. Lessons
are designed to be taught over four days and include phonemic awareness,
phonics instruction, phonograms, blending practice, vocabulary, comprehension,
spelling, dictation, and creative Make-a-Book activities.
SuperBooks Program Levels:
- Level
1 (K–1st Grade, Ages 4–7): Introduces short and long vowels, consonant
sounds, hard/soft c and g, short-vowel patterns, digraphs, silent letters,
and complex vowel combinations.
- Level
2 (1st–3rd Grade, Ages 6–8): Reviews Level 1 skills and continues
through all major letter-sound combinations in the English language,
building stronger reading fluency and confidence.
SuperBooks stands out for its beautiful, story-rich
readers and its well-organized, user-friendly teacher’s manual. It empowers
young children by giving them early success with real reading, while providing
parents with a gentle yet systematic approach grounded in the science of
reading.
This program is an excellent choice for homeschool families
looking for a balanced, enjoyable, and effective way to teach reading.
