Category Description for Biology for the Logic Stage

Biology for the Logic Stage from Elemental Science takes middle school students into a deeper study of cells, ecology, plants, animals and the human body through engaging encyclopedias, hands-on experiments and activities, and organized notebooking. The course is 36 weeks, with the option of either a 2 Day or 5 Day/week schedule. Independent student learning is the goal, with parents guiding and not doing the direct teaching. Required for the course are the Biology for the Logic Stage Student Guide, Biology for the Logic Stage Teacher Guide, and the Spine Resources. A science fair project is also scheduled in week 5. Numerous optional resources are suggested, including other encyclopedias or dictionaries, a 40-400x microscope, slides/coverslips, and dissection specimens and tools. These are not required for student success, rather they provide additional activities for students to explore a given topic on a deeper level. Parents may choose to use any or all of these to meet individual student needs.
