Description

Scaling up from their Grade 6 ELA, Language Lessons for a Living Education 7 emphasizes language arts as skills crucial in communication. Two additional unique topics related to ELA are worldview studies and communication. First, a scriptural worldview permeates the lessons. Students will study this scriptural worldview using the required God’s Story and will practice applying this worldview in analyzing literature. Secondly, this course’s communication focus also encompasses etiquette, body language, and writing assignments—all with the goal of growing in communication with others and God. Special, daily features will rotate between quotation; picture; hymn; scripture; poem; and vocabulary studies: also adding Scripture memory. The quote studies (using published texts pulled from various MasterBooks publications) ask students to answer questions while discussing book-related concepts. Writing assignments will include descriptive, comparison/contrast, expository, and persuasive paragraphs; character sketches (of real and imagined people), book reviews, essays, and creating a bibliography. Within these assignments, grammar and mechanics will be consistently reviewed and applied.

Weekly review gives students opportunities to review Scripture memorization; vocabulary; grammar; and Biblical worldview concepts. In addition, communication review emphasizes ways to strengthen the student’s writing skills, often having the parent (or someone else) read and respond to the writing assignment. Based on this input, students will make corrections, with their final draft emphasizing their best handwriting.

A plethora of teaching resources are found at the back of the text. These include reading lists, additional communication assignments, and bonus activities for each lesson. Helps for writing assignments include writing templates for paragraphs, character sketches, book reports, critical book reviews, and essays. Additionally, you’ll find each lesson’s spelling lists, a compendium of spelling rules and exceptions, grammar and communication study sheets, assessments, and lesson answers.
