After reading your Bible Story in the Level 1 Textbook and discussing the Faith Lessons, students move to the Workbook. In the God's Big Story: Reading Level 1 Student Workbook from Generations, there are 9 different types of exercises/activities presented for students to work on. These include comprehension skills, vocabulary building, sentence building, and other ELA skills. These activities include spelling activities, rhyming patterns, Word Search, vocabulary activities, reading comprehension, sequencing the events of the story, word unscrambles, review of the story’s faith lesson, and scripture copy work. The word search activities advance in skills the further the student gets in this level and are designed to challenge students. Always remember to keep learning fun and if students are feeling discouraged by this activity, skip this activity until they’re ready. There is a nice mixture of dotted mid-line and blank lines for writing practice. Answers to all exercises are in the back. Don’t worry, all pages are perforated and 3-hole-punched allowing for easy removal and storage. There is a suggested schedule that allows you to plan out your year, set due dates, and document grades. 319 pgs., paperback. ~Rebecca

Description
Nowadays it's fashionable to introduce 'great books' to our children
in their Christian paideia or educational training. We, however,
recommend the best Book—the Bible. If our children want to learn to read
and think, the first and core content of their study must be the Bible.
These are God's stories, and our children should know all the stories
of Scripture by the time they are reading on a fifth grade level.
Avoiding the piecemeal approach to Bible stories, the authors of this course instead present the whole story, the unity of Scripture, the true message intended by God. It is a redemptive story. While there may be moral lessons to glean here and there, the core message of Scripture is the work of God in redemption. This is the story the Bible presents from cover to cover and is the story focused on in this reading course.
God’s Big Story Reading Grade 1 is a full-color, systematic, and user-friendly reading program from Generations that speaks the Word of God into the hearts and minds of 1st grade students. It is designed as a 1 semester (18 week) reading component for the Grade 1 Generations Phonics program. Lessons will correlate with the teachings found in the second semester (Volume 2) of the 1st grade phonics series but can also stand alone as a Biblically grounded transition from phonics into a reading program for your 1st grade student. There are three main components to the Generations Reading program:
- Level 1 Textbook
- Level 1 Student Workbook
- Read Aloud Package
Speak, study, and explore the Word of God with your students all while fortifying young learners reading skills. Right off the bat students will be working on comprehension skills, vocabulary building, spelling, and handwriting skills. ~Rebecca
