A colorful, open-and-go, user-friendly worktext for your preschool students. Beginning 2 will continue to develop knowledge of colors, shapes, and counting. Number sense covers 0-15 and introduces basic writing skills. Skills correlate with NCTM Standards covering number and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data/probability. While presented in a spiral approach if worked from cover to cover, the introductory pages include a skill breakdown chart allowing you to alternatively work through the book based on the specific skill you would like to target (sequentially). The top of each page will detail what math skills are targeted. Students who finish Beginning 1 and Beginning 2 should be ready to tackle kindergarten math. Pages are perforated, allowing students to work on one page at a time. These would make a wonderful morning basket item to prime your students’ brains for the day. 284 pgs, paperback. ~Rebecca

Publisher's Description of Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 2 (PK)
This book is a complete curriculum for children of age 4. This colorful, 288-page book uses engaging activities and easy-to-follow explanations and examples to teach the concepts of counting, adding, and subtracting using the numbers 0 – 15. It also teaches geometric shapes, colors, sequencing, classification, and visual tracking. It is both a textbook and workbook that teaches all of the math skills children are expected to know entering kindergarten—and several concepts normally taught in kindergarten and first grade.

The activities spiral slowly, allowing students to become comfortable with concepts, but also challenging them to continue building their problem-solving skills. This book teaches more than mathematical concepts; it teaches mathematical reasoning, so students learn to devise different strategies to solve problems. It is written to the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

An excellent addition to the full curriculum in this book is our revolutionary Smart Abacus™ app. Using the Smart Abacus™ app on your phone, tablet, or computer enables students to solve the addition and subtraction problems in this book using a fun, step-by-step, hands-on method. This app includes 5 addition lessons (levels) and 5 subtraction lessons (levels) along with 200 practice problems. It also simplifies the concept of regrouping (borrowing and carrying), so that this concept—normally taught in 2nd grade—can be taught to early learners.
