This cursive handwriting method teaches a vertical script and connects letters in streamlined ways, eliminating excess frills, serifs, etc. These features and the step-by-step instructions help students transition more smoothly from print to cursive. Students review print over the first 29 pages and then begin cursive. Visual clues and special tools aid in this process. This teacher guide carefully directs parents in teaching their student how to connect letters to form cursive script. You’ll have frequent opportunities to monitor your student’s handwriting progress with cumulative review. Explicit instruction includes reduced student pages, which guide parents using scripted teaching and additional connections to reading, writing, and knowledge. As you teach new letters, the teacher script will guide you in teaching the student. For example, in making a lowercase f, you might say, “You travel up, turn, down, and U-turn.” Students will need the Blackboard with Double Lines, Ready for Cursive Poster Set, and Little Chalk Bits. The Digital Tools mentioned are not needed for homeschool learning.158 pgs, sc. ~ Ruth

Students start by reviewing print letters in developmental order for the first 29 pages, then move to learning cursive lowercase letters. The goal of this cursive methodology is to teach form and not style. Therefore, letters are not written in slanted form. The order that cursive letters are taught is also different—a developmental progression. After every few letters that students learn and practice, they are given “Pause and Practice” pages to review letter creation. The double-lines for writing are ½ inch wide; however, this edition also provides opportunities to practice on other line types. Students will practice writing about various subjects: geography, months and dates, poems, and more. The Teacher Guide and consumable student book are sold individually, in student and teacher packages, or in packages with manipulatives. This program is great for left-handed students, students who struggle with handwriting, or students who want a streamlined approach to handwriting script. Students will need the manipulatives Ready for Cursive Poster Set, the Blackboard with Double Lines, and chalk bits with little sponge cubes. Packages are available. Note: Digital tools such as the IDTT (Interactive Digital Teaching Tool) are available for traditional classrooms only and are truly unnecessary in a small classroom/homeschool setting (for example, a giant smart-board projection of the letter K). References to these digital tools are clearly identified with a laptop/tablet icon.
