The Discovery of Deduction program from Classical Academic Press is an introduction to the fascinating world of formal logic. Students can begin with formal logic or start this program after they complete the Art of Argument (which covers informal logical fallacies). In Discovery of Deduction, students focus on deductive reasoning and the structure of argument through Socratic dialogue and definitional distinctions. Students will study the history of logic, propositions and their relationships, categorical syllogisms, and terms and definitions. The text is written directly to the student and includes real-world application and examples. Appendices in both the teacher and the student books include Venn diagrams of syllogisms, essays, a glossary, endnotes, and a bibliography.
Your student will work from the Student Edition. Each lesson has 4-5 pages of reading followed by questions, exercises, and discussion questions. The Teacher Edition is identical to the student pages and includes all the answers for the student text. The page numbers are the same as the student for easy reference.
