Category Description for French for Children

French for Children is a friendly beginner French program from Classical Academic Press for students between about 3rd grade and 6th grade. Parents do not need to know French themselves. There are 2 levels, A and B, each about a semester long. It is an excellent lead-in to a high school French program.

  • Primer A (Level 1) has 17 weekly chapters. Each chapter has a memory page, grammar page, fun worksheet, and a quiz. Students learn common vocabulary (including nouns & gender), conjugating verbs, conversation, and constructing sentences. Here is our complete package.
  • Primer B (Level 2) has 17 weekly chapters that emphasize grammar with expanded dialogues, stories, songs, and chants. Weekly worksheets and quizzes are included. Here is our complete package.
  • Consumable Student Worktexts are called “Primers”.
  • Chants teach vocabulary with correct pronunciation and help students remember grammar rules. The chants come with the digital video lessons but are also available digitally without the videos.
  • The Answer Key is a copy of the worksheet and quizzes in the Primer with the answers filled in. This book does not include every page from the Primer - only those with answers.
  • Instructional Videos & Chants are available if the instructor is not familiar with Spanish. Each lesson (approx. 15 min each) features the author, Joshua Kraut. The story reads somewhat like a fable and introduces you to new vocabulary you will see in the lesson. You will see both French and English in the dialogues. You will also practice your speaking with a chant from the audio files. The chants teach your mouth how to form the sounds. So, practice these until you master them! Vocabulary is the other component of the memory section, about 10 words per chapter.
