Category Description for WriteShop Primary (Grades K-3)

WriteShop Primary is an engaging and colorful introduction to writing for students in grades K-3. Lessons are based around a theme and provide opportunities for the student to feel successful in writing largely because the parent is working closely with the student. Three choices of lesson plans are provided (one, two, or three-week). These allow you to use the sequential lessons in three years, two years, or one year, depending on the age of the child (older children can go through material more quickly). Lesson formats are similar and include guided writing practice, pre-writing activities, brainstorming, a writing project, publishing the project, and ideas for “doing more.” Each lesson includes an activity that reinforces some aspect of that lesson.

The spiral-bound Teacher Guides provide introductory material, scheduling options, information for setting up and supplying a home writing center, specific information for teaching the writing lessons, and evaluation guidelines. Activity Sets provide worksheet pages and are reproducible for families. Both are required. Complete Sets contain the Teacher Guide & Activity Set.
