Description

Foundational Phonics Book One uses a gentle approach to master basic consonants and short vowel sounds. The consumable book begins with the author’s notes on ear, tongue, and eye training and how to practice these exercises before you even start the book. Then the author tells you how to best use the book along with instructions on proper pencil grip and handwriting. The 26 chapters focus on recognizing the letters and sounds of the alphabet through a multi-sensory approach. For example, some of the activities for the letter “m” include alliterative poetry, how to use sign language to show “m”, listening to stories with the “m” sound, a picture study with “m” sounds, handwriting practice with “m”, clapping your hands when you hear the “m” sound in a story, and drawing a picture of an object beginning with the “m” sound. Flashcards with each letter are available separately (007766). Foundational Phonics Book Two follows Book One. Reproducible for immediate family use only. ~ Gina

With just two spiral-bound books—Letter Mastery and Word Mastery—students will progress from individual letter sounds to reading words, sentences, and stories.

The program is flexible, open-and-go, and suitable for young beginners as well as struggling readers.

Key Curriculum Features:

  • True phonics method with multi-sensory reinforcement (visual, auditory, and tactile)
  • Letters taught in an order that enables early word-building (e.g., M, A, N first)
  • Incorporates American Sign Language for letters and recognition practice with varied fonts
  • Handwriting practice, oral exercises, picture studies, and simple games
  • Builds from basic letter sounds and short vowels to long vowels, blends, digraphs, syllables, and reading
  • Flexible pacing—complete at the child’s speed with built-in review
  • Can also support spelling practice in Word Mastery

Program Components:

  • Letter Mastery (Book One): 26 chapters covering each letter’s primary sound, word-building, handwriting, and a few early sight words
  • Word Mastery (Book Two): Continues with short-vowel review, long vowels, blends, digraphs, syllables, sentences, and reading practice (3rd edition available with expanded content)
  • Flashcards (optional): Printed cards to support lessons

Important Notes:

  • No lesson preparation required—pick up the book and begin.
  • Suggested pacing is flexible (e.g., 15–30 minutes several times per week).
  • Students who already know letter sounds and can read CVC words may begin with Word Mastery.
