In the Sahara Desert, caravans of camels are led to Oases and watering holes to sustain them so they can continue their journey. Through the Desert by Allplay brings 2-5 players along on an interactive 2-5 player area control journey where they command 5 different colored camel caravans; each with a leader vying to create successful camel caravans by earning the most points in three different ways following placement rules: 1.) place camels to extend their caravans and connect them to watering holes and oases 2.) create the largest caravans in the game in as many different colors possible and 3.) enclose areas with their camels. When a player puts the last camel of any one color on the board or can no longer place a camel on their turn the game ends and person with the most points wins!
The main board is two-sided, and players can choose to use the night-time side with a river running through it. If using that side of the board, instead of gaining points for connecting to oases, players’ caravans score points when they first cross the river.
I found this game to be thoroughly enjoyable as it can be learned quickly, with straightforward rules and goals. It is wonderfully produced, colorful, thematic and takes 25 minutes to play, which makes it perfect for those who want to have a bit of fun without a larger time commitment. ~ Marsha
