There are so many reasons to like this curriculum. It is flexible, easy to use, easy to plan, and appropriate for use with multiple ages. The books that the author has selected have beautiful illustrations, and there is a wealth of both art instruction and art appreciation in the manual. Even I am learning to appreciate art! The book topics are varied, so it covers the spectrum in science, geography, and culture studies. I really appreciate all of the language art lessons. It's such a simple yet poignant way to add beginning writing skills into our homeschool.

Our favorite time of day
My kids ages 5 and 8 adore our FIAR time together.

Love it!
I totally recommend this spiral book. The author selects the best books to read that have "meat" in it. They don't make books like those anymore. I love that I could still find or order them from my library. My daughter looks forward too this part of the day as we learn all kinds of subjects through reading the same book throughout the week. So much fun learning!

I have used FIAR for my son for K-1st grade I love the concept but I feel it lacks structure I am the type that loves a lesson plan to check off You will not find that here It is all up to you and the amount of time and effort you put into it My child got bored with reading the same book 5 times I use this as a supplement now with my 2nd child I have fond memories with these books and activities and that is why I won't give it up entirely

We have eight children(ages 19-6) and have always homeschooled I had heard of FIAR but never tried it I decided to try it with our two youngest who are 6 and 8 If I had known how great it was I would have started using it a long time ago! I absolutely love it and so do the children! Our 8 year old described it as the BEST part of her whole day

I have to say we just love Five in a Row around here We started doing it when my daughter had just turned four and it was a wonderful relaxed and cozy way to ease into home-learning The books chosen are fantastic we have been introduced to so many great titles and authors we would have missed otherwise We did not always use the books as instructed (5 days a week) sometimes we just did a couple days or used it as a springboard for our own activities Just recently we started volume 2 after a year long break from FIAR and I am sorry we ever quit FIAR is a great way to get your kids feet wet so to speak in a variety of topics and spark some new interests My almost 6 and 3 year old both love hearing the stories and doing the activities I often see them later on making up little stories and games of their own (playing on an imaginary high-wire after reading "Mirette on the High Wire" for example Highly recommended!

I met the gentleman responsible for creating this and immediately saw his passion for teaching children and was convinced immediately!

My daughter loves to read, but has an aversion to traditional (classroom) styles of learning. I hope FIAR encourages her to use reading to learn a variety of things. I am also pleased at the hands-on nature of the curriculum.

Five in a Row Vol. 1 was great! My 4 (almost 5) year old enjoyed it, so we're continuing with Vol. 2 this spring. I do have a copy of Before Five in a Row on hand also because a handful of the FIAR books are a bit too mature for her current age, I plan to go back and forth this year. We love mapping the story disks, they're incredibly effective in triggering her memories of the stories.

We loved FIAR Volume 1 and completed it twice. We tried just doing unit studies on our own using the same method but getting the week of work together proved difficult in our current season of life so we are moving on to Volume 2. We're all excited!

I like to use FIAR for my co-op class. I use one book two weeks during the semester. There are plenty of activities. After doing the activities, the kiddos really remember the book and all that they learned.

My 5 and 3 year-old have really enjoyed FIAR Volume 1, and to be honest, so have I! It's been a wonderful way to teach a wide variety of subjects and open new doors to a bigger world right here at home. I am so thankful for the sweet memories of cuddling up on the couch with my children and exploring these literary classics that have found their way into our home and hearts. Here's to many more days of exploring the world through literature!

Looks like we can jump right in and decide how involved we want to get with each different unit study. It also looks like the books teach many of the values that are important to our family.

Is this volume intended to be for the spring or fall (like volume 1)?
A shopper on Dec 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I never noticed that it had to be used in a particular semester. You can choose which lessons you do when, but has a similar amount of lessons as vol. 1
What is the ISBN-10 or ISBN-13 number for volume 2?
A shopper on Dec 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The 10-digit ISBN is: 1-888659-01-7
