Happy
The stories are fun. They encourage reading and independent writing. Happy with curriculum.

SWB stuff is promising...

Daughter uses concepts learned in WWE in her writing for other classes and doesn't realize it, comes natural now. Exposure to great variety of classic books.

I have used the earlier levels of the program but think my student could use more practice with narration prior to Writing With Skill.

I wanted to try a more structured writing program this year, so we're giving this a try. We've heard great things.

It's part of The Well-Trained Mind curriculum, which we enjoy, and have found to work very well with our children.

I can't say enough about how important it is to build the ability to narrate. This is a skill that will serve your kids well into their college years.

I cannot afford IEW.... so I was looking for something more affordable, lessons in bite sizes, nicely incremental, with a good trajectory for Language Arts and Writing Comp. Not too easy, but not too bogged down either. I'm schooling 5 boys so I'm looking for something that builds gently and solidly. I've done Easy Grammar, which is pretty great and stress free. I want to give the First Language Lessons and Complete Writer Series a try. We will also be adding in Fix It Grammar for fun. Enjoy!

Love the scripted instructions for the teacher, the great reading selections. A no-tears writing approach giving the kid all he needs to produce writing at his level (re-telling a story instead of coming up with it). The philosophy understands the 3 components of writing: putting thoughts into words - putting words on paper - mechanics of handwriting - and doesn't overwhelm the child with all 3 at once.

I love this program and used WWE Level 1-3 with 3 of my kids. One son has learning disabilities. This gives him practice with good writing (we do copywork instead of dictations) and a lot of practice finding the main point and summarizing. (The book calls it narration). Unlike creative writing, kids don't need to invent their own subjects and topics; they read segments of good fiction or non-fiction and write summaries from these. The program is a helpful foundation.

For what age level is this (level 4) appropriate?
Gretchen on Apr 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Depends on the child's writing ability.

This Lvl isn't even required it's more so for review and strengthen skills.

My daughter is grade 4 ( 9 years old ) and suits her well. I will be using it for my next 3 children as well. I have all Lvls
