Description

This resource is based upon the theory that students more readily write about what interests them. Middle schoolers commonly have an affinity for the “revolting"; things such as weird creatures, odd video games, messy tricks—anything with varying levels of gross! Tongue-in-cheek, this writing journal gives those who consider writing “revolting," some high-interest writing assignments that reach a new—uhm—revolting level. Two lessons, for example, are entitled “The Art of Fart," and “How to Pretend to Clean Your Room". Follow the 18-week (3- or 5-day) schedule as in-depth as you desire. Along the way, students learn new vocabulary (by way of puzzles, etc.); practice handwriting; complete writing journal assignments; illustrate the lesson; share their work; and make room for a possible spelling/vocabulary test. Strewn with bits of color and “Fun Facts," the journal includes an answer key and completion certificate. Attracting reluctant writers like a magnet, this journal moves them to the enjoying-writing side! Consumable, nonreproducible, 146 pgs, pb. ~ Ruth
