Interning For High School Credit - Second Edition
Internships provide our young people with a time tested method of career exploration and preparation. Unfortunately, this type of learning has slowly been lost in the academic world and is often taught in book format rather than through experiential learning. As homeschool families, our lifestyle affords us greater opportunity to provide this excellent learning advantage to our young people. But where do you start? Frankly, internships are a lost art in our culture today, which is why I am so thankful for this book!
Author of the popular Exploring Creation with Marine Biology, Sherri Seligson, has given high school students and their parents a vital tool for success at the high school level. Combining education and assessment, this book provides parents and students general information on internships and high school credits as well as practical details on selecting an internship and company. Once these decisions are made, the author walks you through writing a sample letter of introduction and resume. She also provides record keeping worksheets which include semester goals, a work performance evaluation form, weekly hour summary sheets, and journal logs to document work experiences, goals and skills, and evaluation forms. Skills-gained worksheets, a course wrap up (including a writing assignment) and sample thank you notes provide guidelines for concluding the internship experience. Although many internships are one semester in length, the author does provide for individual flexibility. If you choose to complete two semesters of internship, there are documentation pages for an expanded learning experience as well. Non-reproducible, spiral bound. 67 pgs. ~Deanne
