Product Description:

When it is fully assembled, this model of a covered wagon measures about 8.5" x 4.5". Included in the kit are precut wood pieces, a few small nails, the cover of the wagon (which is made from white cardstock), and easy to follow instructions. Recommended additional supplies (which are not included) are paint, wood glue, hammer, and scissors. The wagon is fairly easy to make and (not including painting) should take about fifteen minutes to assemble. ~Rachel
Category Description for Historical Wood Model Kits:

Bring some crafting fun to your history lessons with these inexpensive kits! Each kit includes precut wooden pieces, any small nails or fasteners needed, and easy to follow instructions for building the project. To finish the projects, you will need a few materials not included in the kits: paint (acrylic works best), wood glue, a hammer, sandpaper, and scissors. Younger children may need some help with assembly, but overall the projects are simple to complete. The different models have different amounts of wood pieces in the kits, but there are generally a dozen or more pieces used to complete each model. The Covered Wagon and Pirate Ship models also include white cardstock pieces to form the wagon covering and sails. The Tepee model has a round base with sticks to form the core of the tepee and a paper cone shaped cover that you can decorate with your own designs. Finished projects are small (5-6") but durable. A great addition to your history studies. ~ Rachel

We are studying Little House on the Prairie and loading our wagons to travel west. I ordered these because Rainbow Resource had the best prices so I could get one for each of my students rather than one for the while class. Thank you!

Not as easy as I'd hoped
I bought two of these to do with my kids. I ended up doing most of it myself, as the directions weren't very good and my kids quickly became frustrated. We never did get the wagon cover on, as it was folded oddly and wouldn't let me glue it down easily. Pieces were the wrong size, and we had to guess at where some things went.

This project turned out cute! The directions should have been more specific.

Good!
These were great for the price for a CoOp project....but I had to send them home with the kids because there was no way I was going to do this in class with 50 kids.

great model!
My 10 yr old had no problem putting this model together. He stained it, assembled it and completed most steps with only a very small amount of help from his father. It does require wood glue and drying time in between steps, but this teaches patience as well. For the price, it's a great model!

Good kit with modifications
We used these for our homeschooling group after finding out modifications that would be needed. Basically the pieces that fit inside the wagon are about 1/4" too long. We recut all the pieces that fit inside the wagon and purchased a pack of longer nails (also recommended to keep the wheels on) and they went together great. If we had not known about these problems, it would have been a very frustrating project. However, it is a great price for all the supplies "cut" and ready to go (who has time to go find wheels, design, and cut these pieces for less then $2.50?). It does beg the question, has anyone at Darice bothered to put this kit together? That said, I would buy the kit again.
