Product Description:

What could be a more appropriate activity to accompany your study of Ancient Egypt than making your own papyrus? This kit includes instructions and enough strips of Egyptian papyrus stem to create one sheet of papyrus. The process takes several days, and a lot of soaking, but when you're done, you can use your sheet of authentic papyrus for your own unique Egyptian work of art, or a scroll! Please note that this kit does have a distinctive salty, dried-plant "aroma" which may be more offensive to some noses than others. ~ Jess

You cannot find this toolkit anywhere! My son is 6 and desperately wants to make his own papyrus. We even bought some papyrus plants - however it arrived super small - so I think it will take ages for them to produce strong stems. Thank you for making this available for all the young kids who enjoy experimenting and handmade produce:)

Greetings from Europe!

We are studying Ancient Egyptians and just talked about hieroglyphics and cuneiform. My son was very interested in the process of making papyrus out of reeds. With being stuck at home, I figured this would be an enriching activity to solidify what they have learned.

How long does the papyrus take to dry?
Kara W on Jan 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The papyrus took a lot longer than we expected to dry. After the last rolling and removing the towels it was another 6 days to fully dry. A lot of shrinking happened which caused big spaces. My son had fun during the making process, but was disappointed with the end result. We ordered some "plan B" finished sheets just in case the process failed, and we're glad we did. He showed his finished piece, and then the other sheets to his class. I hope this helps you.

changed directions
my daugher and I were diligent with the directions until the pressing of the paper. we watched a you tube of a lady who said it didn't work at all the way the directions said. so we you tubed a lady in egypt who wove the wet reeds and pressed it with a vice for 6 days. So we used boards and smaller vices/carpenter clamps, and it was an exciting and fabulous result to make paper like the Egyptians did 1000's of years ago!!

Hands on Learning at its best!
I love the Papyrus kit. The reeds are longer than I thought they would be. They will make Hands on Learning so much fun for the kids. And the instructional page is easy reading. I was do impressed with your product I ordered a second kit.

I have always given good reviews but this will be my exception I did this project (tried) with my 10 year old After all the soaking & rolling we never did get a sheet of papyrus I followed the directions as I understood them but it just never turned out It was still a learning experience even though it didn't turn out I would like to suggest that people may want to spend their money on something else
