Publisher Description:

In Key to Algebra new algebra concepts are explained in simple language, and examples are easy to follow. Word problems relate algebra to familiar situations, helping students understand abstract concepts. Students develop understanding by solving equations and inequalities intuitively before formal solutions are introduced.

Category Description for PROGRAMS - OTHER:

While offering some instruction, these programs include less teaching material or do not cover the full range of grade-level skills that the comprehensive programs offer.

Category Description for Key To Math (Gr. 4-12):

The Key To... series is a very self-instructional, unintimidating, programmed learning series. Covering seven basic topics, students can work through these horizontally or vertically. They are ideal for "homework" or a more topical approach to the subject. Presentation is done in a simple, friendly manner, incrementally, and with examples to follow as needed. Workbooks are thin and consumable. Answer keys are recommended. Order by the book or in sets.

We like this series because it encourages children to tackle these subject areas in as much depth as they can, rather than working strictly within the confines of an age-graded math program. Starting in 4th or 5th grade, I purchased a complete set of student workbooks for each child. Book 1 in each topic was put on the school book shelf. When Key to... was assigned, my children were free to work on whatever topic they chose, and they worked as much as they wanted. As soon as Book 1 in any subject was completed, it was replaced by Book 2. My oldest daughter sometimes got so involved that she just kept going!

I had gotten a recommendation from another home school mom whose son had some learning challenges that this worked well with, so I am giving them a try!

We have used the Key series before and like the way they break down the skills, step by step. Great for extra practice or remedial work.

These books allow my son, who doesn't think he is capable in math, to work independently and confidently through algebra.

I have used this series in the past with my students who have a Learning Disability in Math Calculation and/or Math Reasoning and they find these worksheets much easier to follow along with and learn the concepts.

My 13 year old son is bright but has multiple learning disabilities so some math programs can be daunting for him in terms of their teaching methods order of presentation complexity and -- let's face it -- fluff! The Key to Series has been GREAT! The Series breaks each math discipline down to the basics and presents the concepts one at a time in a clear straightforward manner with plenty of drill on each concept before moving on to the next The drills can all be done or some can be skipped as needed Although this series is I believe designed as a supplement my son uses this series as his sole math curriculum and has worked in the books on Percents Fractions Decimals Algebra and Geometry He is currently working his way through the Key to Algebra books and is gaining an excellent understanding of Algebra! We are so thankful to have found a math curriculum that works for him!
