Finding a homeschool spelling curriculum that works for your family can be a gargantuan task. Many of the spelling programs available are time-consuming, ineffective, expensive, or all three. These are the problems Beverly Adams-Gordon faced when she was searching for a spelling program for her daughter, who was having great difficulty in the subject. Finding nothing appropriate, she set out to create the best spelling program for struggling spellers that she possibly could.

For Spelling Teachers

Unlike many other homeschool spelling programs, Adams-Gordon provides all of the material that parents or teachers need to fully understand how the program works, all in one book. Teachers do not need to purchase a new book every year; the program can be used for children from age 8 until high school. The program includes several additional resources for teachers. The book itself has information on the most effective ways to teach spelling and extensive instructions for how to begin the program, as well as modifying it to support each student's learning style and abilities. Access to an online "Quick Start" video is also included for teachers who want to plunge right into the lessons. In addition, purchasing the program provides you with additional online resources, access to the Spelling Power website for extra support, and a subscription to the Spelling Power newsletter.

For Students Learning to Spell

One of the most attractive components of this program is its implementation in short daily increments. Adams-Gordon designed the lessons to last just 15 minutes per day. Each lesson begins with a quick five-minute test to check retention of previous lessons and introduce new words. The next five minutes are spent going over words the student misspelled, and the final five minutes focus on learning the new words. The lessons are rooted in phonics but also rely on spelling rules, making the program extremely effective.

These books are very helpful over a regular spiral-bound notebook. It keeps us organized and helps the children do the work independently. The books are sturdy and pages have never fallen out or come apart. This is our 3rd year with SP and it really is a quick, efficient and effective way to learn how to spell.

I like using these books with the program. I tried copying sheets from the website, but that became tedious, so I paid the money and bought this book. Much easier to keep finished work together to review progress (and much slimmer than using a binder for sheets.)

While we could just print off copies off our printer for our spelling tests, this books makes it less work and less ink! I cannot print all these pages for less that the book costs, so its very effective for us.

Worth every penny!
Wasn’t sure I needed this to do the program, but so glad I made the purchase. Makes our spelling so easy! This is the first year my son actually looks forward to spelling practice.

Handy to have
These books are handy to have if you are using Spelling Power. I really like having them. The only issue that I have is that I wish customers could select the color that they want (multiple color selections in each grade level). We have several boys and everything is color coded. It was just our luck that NONE of them got "their" color, so needless to say, it is a bit confusing for mom (me) because I have to stop and check whose book it is each time we're using it.

very useful
I am new to using Spelling Power, and bought this to see how it would work out. It is great because there are checklist type reminders for what steps to do independently, when working on the missed words. My 4th grader is using it now, and I plan to continue to purchase these later... works much better than a regular notebook because of the checklists.

I would suggest the workbook for children with a harder time writing the problems down. It's easy to understand and had lots of review. I love that there are stared problems in the practice.

These notebooks have made using the program a breeze! It is so nice to have everything you need in one place - from placement tests to review tests to space for writing sentences - i's all here I wouldn't do Spelling Power without these
