Category Description for Pathway Reading:

An Amish reading program which portrays a lifestyle in which people cherish Christian traits, and in which children gain insights into how to behave! Families are large and stories are centered around the family and farm. The stories are interesting to children if our kids are any indicator! One of my favorites is a story from First Steps in which little Rachel discovers, after attempting to help mother shell peas, that watching baby Miriam really is a good way to help mother with meal preparations!

Although many of our customers use the readers as a standalone, we carry the complete reading program, including teacher's manuals, workbooks, and tests or quizzes where available. Instruction is plain and effective, with minimalistic black and white illustrations, which makes this series affordable and user-friendly. Please note that the Teacher's Manuals are necessary for Before We Read, First Steps, and Learning Through Sounds 1 and 2.

Package content varies. Each package includes the Student Text, Student Workbook, and Workbook Teacher Manual. Where available, packages also include the Tests and Test Answer Sheet and/or Quizzes and Answer Sheet. While these tests and answers are not part of the original Amish reading program, they were created to meet the needs of homeschooling parents outside the Amish classroom. Flashcards are included in the Grade 1 package. See individual packages for more information. Consumables are not reproducible, so each student will need his/her own workbook, tests, and quizzes.

Packages include the student text, student workbook, teacher edition of the workbook, test, and the test answer sheet.

Looking forward to this reader for my youngest. I didn't use it for my other children but I know it will be good because I've used some of their workbooks already.

We love this series of readers. There are Christian values being taught and solid character is being built. The workbooks that accompany them are great for teaching vocabulary, phonetic rules, and checking comprehension. A great all inclusive curriculum that is simple and complete.

I've been told that this book works great with a Charlotte Mason type curriculum, so I thought I would give these books a go.

Reading practice...my children are enjoying the other books in this series.

Wanted a book without excessive colors or images in order to help with focusing on the goal of learning to read. I've read it's what the Amish use in their schools so I know that the story lines are family based and classic settings nothing new with technology added.

I chose this book to use in my first grade class because it has wonderful stories, more reading with less pictures and it's hardback!

I was looking for "read books" that my son could read that would support the phonics lessons he is doing. We love simple black and white stories about every day life that support good morals and behaviour.

I was looking for an alternative to the McGuffy readers, since they were a bit bland. My kindergartner learned to read with this First Steps book!

Pathway Readers were recommended to me by veteran homeschooling mamas. Also the farm/ranch lifestyle appeals to my kids as it matches theirs!

I homeschooled my children many years ago and taught them to read with this wonderful series. I am looking at becoming a Grandmother one day and realized I had somehow lost several of the books during moves. I wanted to replace them before I had grandchildren.

Are these hard or soft cover? thanks :)

BEST ANSWER: The books I received are hard cover
does all of this curriculum contain sectarian content?
A shopper on Dec 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I just looked up the definition for Sectarian to make sure to answer your question correctly. We bought three of these books and I don't see any sectarian ideas. They are nice story lines about family, hard work, and farm life. Very innocent. My son enjoys reading them. Hope this helps.

Great Starter
My kids love these books. They're simple enough and repetitive enough (but not too repetitive) to help the kids remember sight words and get lots of practice in on the same words. The stories are simple and engaging. My kids grew up around Amish country, so they are familiar with the lifestyles of the kids in the stories. We've got all the way up through grade 6, and are working on getting the last two.

A great Primer
I would totally recommend this series. I found this book used for $1.95 to see if my youngest son who struggles with reading and writing would even be interested in it. His interest in it led me to get the remaining readers and the corresponding workbooks from Rainbow Resource and he is flying through this reader and the workbook. He is older so I sort of expected this, but what also helps him is the large print and spacing. With the workbook it re-enforces concepts, but in short bursts that he can handle. As far as the moral stories and stories about siblings go, they make this Mom happy and he's into them as well. The bonus is I will get to use this set with my rising 1st grade daughter as well come fall.

Sweet Beginner Readers
Found a review of these on Simply Charlotte Mason. Very pleased with them. My 5-year-old likes the stories of the kids and is excited she can read them all by herself.

We love this book! I'm so glad I made the decision to purchase these. My little guy does not enjoy reading, and this book gave him the confidence he needed to see that he is a good reader. The stories in this book are interesting enough to make him want to keep reading. I highly recommend these books.

I just love this program. We used it with my first 2 in K but it was a little hard for them. My third is flying through it. We use Bob books with this reader because this has a lot of sight words and I want him to practice a few mom Cvc words. However, I love the simple stories and price of this. Have used Pathway Readers for K-4th. Love it!

I ordered the First Steps Preprimer for my daughter She just turned 5 and will be starting kindergarten officially in a couple of months but she did the first half of a different phonics / reading program during her preschool year In that program she was reading only cvc words with short vowels and some sight words I expected this reader to be something I could start her in as additional practice when she finished the second half of that program so I was pleasantly surprised tonight when the box came and she chose this book as her story to read to me at bedtime (We each read a book to one another) Generally she reads the readers she already did in her reading program They are fine but the stories don't teach her anything outside of the phonics practice I loved how with the First Steps Preprimer there was a section for me to read to her that set up the story and then her section completing the story I told her I read the small words she reads the big (font size) ones and she was delighted By the end of the first story she was easily reading "come" and "see" both new words to her and ones that don't follow the rules she's already learned because of how often they were repeated and she wanted to read it again to her dad She also learned a bit about livestock auctions These books remind me a great deal of Dick and Jane which we also have reprints of but with more depth I predict we will buy the rest of this series in the near future!
