The F-14 TOMCAT is a true icon of Cold War aviation. It entered service with the US Navy in 1972 and was officially withdrawn only in 2006. Designed by Grumman Corporation, this fighter first took to the air in 1970 and quickly became the basis for the defense of the US fleet's aircraft carriers.
Its most characteristic feature is the variable-geometry wings, which allowed for maximum maneuverability and speed – regardless of the conditions. The F-14 performed both fighter and reconnaissance functions, and over time it was also adapted to strike missions.
Its legend was established in 1986, when it appeared in the cult film Top Gun – it was on board this aircraft that Maverick and Goose conquered the skies.
In the second part of the movie hit, although American pilots sat at its controls, this plane no longer belonged to the American army.
