This kit includes only the required manipulatives (no optional items) needed for Saxon Math Grades K, 1, 2 and 3 (please refer to the Manipulatives Overview button above for details), PLUS an upgrade to a set of 250 plastic pattern blocks (to replace the set of 100 plastic pattern blocks included in the standard kits).

Manipulative instruction is an integral part of the Saxon
K-3 math programs. At these levels, teaching is scripted and lesson intructions will specify when a
manipulative is used and how to use it. Manipulatives are objects that children
can work with to figure out a math concept, moving from concrete (physical
object) to symbolic (representative symbols) to abstract (understanding and
internalizing).
Specific manipulatives are used in each level; some manipulatives are used in all four levels. Most are required, while a few are optional. We offer manipulative sets for each grade level as well as K-3 sets. Packages are available with and without optional items, and upgrade packages with “deluxe” items that replace a basic item are also available. All items in the manipulative sets are available separately, but buying in a set saves you money. Our manipulatives come from several suppliers, and are chosen for the quality and value of the product.
