Literature Odyssey

Description

Pandia Press offers a high school reading course with their Literature Odyssey Series. These unit-studies take approximately 16 weeks to accomplish with a 4-day work week schedule. There will eventually be 8 total units with students completing 2 per year. The Student Materials are written directly to the student, are loose leaf, and 3-hole punched—ready for a binder. The resources needed for this course will be a binder, pens, pencils, highlighters, a journal and internet access. The target audience is high school students, but you can easily adjust for enthusiastic 7-8th grade readers. The intended order for this series:

  • Short Stories: intended for 9th grade can adjust up or down as needed. Focus’ on active reading habits, purposeful annotations, and use of textual evidence
  • Poetry (coming July 2026): intended for 9th grade can adjust up or down. Continues mastery of skills from Short Stories within the context of poetry
  • Drama (2027)
  • Novels (2027)

The student is self-guided through the course, however, there is an eBook Teacher Guide [available directly from Pandia Press] that follows the student ‘s lessons with suggested answers; unit project rubrics to guide assessing; and capstone discussion guides for the final assessment of your students’ comprehension. Focusing on a central question of ‘How do you construct meaning from a text’—students are equipped with college preparatory skills to analyze and think critically on what they are consuming. Outside of assessing the projects with the aid of the rubrics—Literature Odyssey is a student independent course providing that reading component for your ELA studies! ~Rebecca
