Language Arts 300 teaches grammar, spelling, and penmanship. Students identify nouns, verbs, adjectives, and sentence subject, and begin diagramming. Language mechanics taught include punctuation, capitalization, and subject-verb agreement. A creative writing lesson is in each Light-Unit. Students learn to use contents pages, indexes, dictionaries, and encyclopedias.

Grade 3 Language Arts covers phonics, spelling, word usage, handwriting as well as grammar, capitalization, and punctuation along with numerous miscellaneous skills like alphabetizing. Writing exercises include thank-you notes, letters, and stories with a creative writing lesson in every unit. The LightUnits Set (10 magazine-size consumable worktexts) provides the instructional/textual material as well as student exercises, plus quizzes and tests. The Sunrise 2nd Edition provides full-color illustrations and graphics with 16 lessons per unit. Unit tests are in the middle and can be pulled out. The wraparound, spiral-bound Teacher Guide provides daily lessons coupled with reduced copies of the student pages. Alternate tests with answers (in case a student needs to retake a test) are also provided. There are two options for answers rather than using the Teacher Guide. The Answer Key Set (10 books) provides full-size student units with answers filled in. The Answer Key is a spiral-bound, landscape book that provides half-size copies of the student pages. You do not need both the Teacher Guide and the Answer Key Set or Answer Key.
