Description

The Common Sense Science Tools e-Book Package includes the digital versions of the Tools Book and Student Materials Packet.

Common Sense Science Tools e-Book is organized into 18 weeks of science at a pace of three days per week. This e-Book includes an introduction to the course and the philosophy of multilevel teaching, followed by vocabulary and lesson information and the lab and activity instructions. Lab activities are easy to do at home and use household items. Parents/teachers are encouraged to include topical library books, videos, or supplemental teaching tools from the internet to enrich student learning. To help students conceptualize, analyze, review, and apply the knowledge gleaned, the lessons each have at least one activity which involves the construction of 3D Graphic Organizers, a sort of cut-and-create method to create individual booklets. The activities focus on skills such as compare/contrast, observation, describing a process, or explaining functions. Most of the activities include writing about the subject matter, although families may choose to orally discuss some of the activities.

The Common Sense Science Tools Student Materials Packet e-Book contains all the templates necessary for the Graphic Organizers that are integral to the Common Sense Press Tools Course. Black-and-white templates are reproducible for the purchasing family, which makes this an affordable, fun way to learn science as a family. Packet is staple-bound, which allows for easy removal for student use. Index cards are used to record predictions, observations, experiments, and conclusions. Additionally, students will need pencils, scissors, glue, colored pencils/crayons, letter-size manila file folders (or 12” x 18” cardstock), multi-colored 8.5” x 11” paper, and a large ziplock bag.

Access to the e-book comes in an email with download information that is sent 1-2 business days after the order is processed. You will have 14 days to download the book, which does not expire from your computer. (Access will come from the following email address: orders@commonsensepress.com).

Category Description for Common Sense Science

Teaching elementary science should be efficient, easy, and enjoyable—it’s just common sense! Common Sense Science is the revised version of the Great Science Adventures series and retains two of its key virtues: children make their own science program by putting complicated information in a simple-to-understand visual format, and children learn together.

Each Book contains helpful information on philosophy and how to use the book, lessons with teaching information, and lab/activity instructions. To help the students conceptualize, analyze, review, and apply the knowledge gleaned, lesson activities involve the construction of 3D Graphic Organizers from the Student Material Packet. Vocabulary is integral to all lessons. Included labs rely on household items and/or the Graphic Organizers. The scientific method guides students through the labs, with index cards used to record predictions, observations, experiments, and conclusions. Additionally, students need pencils, scissors, glue, colored pencils/ crayons, letter-size manila file folders or cardstock, multi-colored 8.5” x 11” paper, and a large zip lock bag.

For those who learn best by doing, this approach is well worth considering. The Common Sense Science books are divided into 18 three-day weeks (one semester). Available in print or e-book editions individually or in sets.
