Gruber's Essential Guides to Test Taking

Whether you test your homeschoolers or not, it is a good idea to think of test taking as a skill to be practiced. Testing can be quite traumatic for some students. This anxiety if often a fear of the unknown and the stressful thought of a test being high stakes. This fear can result in scores that do not reflect a child’s proficiency at all and only reflect that they are not good at taking tests! Kids can get really discouraged when this happens. Preparation and practice, and learning strategies that keep students on task and on time, can go a long way toward helping learners become confident test-takers. Much of what students will practice is reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. These can be applied to any exam! Each study book offers strategies and practice questions with answers in the back. It is always a good thing to start test prep several months prior to the test itself. Cramming does not work long term, and is just bad time management – something these books help to improve. ~Sara
