About SaraAbout Sara

Hi! My name is Sara Carothers.

I came to Rainbow with a foreign language background. You see, I taught French at public high schools in Peoria and Decatur, IL. This included the International Baccalaureate and AP programs. But this almost seems like ancient history now that I have been working with homeschoolers for the last 10 years. My sons are now 25 (Nick) and 23 (Adam) and following their paths in life. My husband Les and I live in a lake cabin in central IL where we enjoy boating and riding the golf cart around.

Want credentials? I have a B.A. from Illinois State University in French/Secondary Education and an M.A. in Curriculum from St. Xavier University of Chicago. Working at Rainbow has opened up a different side of education for me. I find the world of homeschooling the best place to be, especially as public schools are deciding what their future will look like.

The options available to homeschooling parents can be daunting. There is something for every learner, every family, every scenario. It is our job to help you find your best fit. I feel I use everything I have ever learned as a parent and a classroom teacher in this job!

Also, I love writing articles for the Rainbow Newsletters! It is another way to share knowledge and a bit of fun to parents. I get to be creative selecting topics and try to choose things that will be of value to our readers.

A pet project while at RRC is the annual Summer Book Contest. In 2022, it will be the 8th one I have led with Ruth. Each year, one winner gets their book printed and sold by Rainbow. It has been so much fun to read the stories kids submit. The genre changes every year and our authors always rise to the challenge.

Attending homeschool conventions has been a great experience to interact with our customers. There is no typical homeschooling family these days, which makes matching parents and materials all the more fun!

On a personal note, I have lived in Europe and traveled extensively.  I've been a professional mural artist and continue to create art for friends and family. I'm an avid reader and a Master Gardener. Working at Rainbow Resource Center has been a blessing. I get to continue "teaching" even though I'm no longer in the classroom and love helping parents teach their own children.

I look forward to "talking" with you and answering any questions you may have regarding curriculum. You can reach me via email at consultants@rainbowresource.com or scarothers@rainbowresource.com, by phone at 888-841-3456,  or online chat.  I have videos on our website and the Rainbow Resource Center Youtube channel. You may even see me at a homeschool convention in your area!
