Description

BJU History of America spans from America’s First People through the 2024 election year. Students learn about American history, economics, government, culture, religion, and technology by evaluating key events, analyzing primary sources, and applying biblical principles. Easy to read text, interesting photos, fun facts, and informative maps all make this program appealing for learners. This revised edition has updated content including timelines and biographies, with some chapters combined or condensed for a clearer, more chronological flow. The Homeschool Kit consists of a Student Textbook, Teacher Edition Part 1 & 2, Homeschool Companion Guide, Activities Book, Activities Book Answer Key, Assessments, and Assessments Answer Key.

Each of the 18 chapters in the softcover Student Textbook has engaging text, colorful illustrations, maps and timelines, fun facts, short accounts of “how it was” and short biographies related to a specific time period. The back of the book includes several resources like atlases, the US Presidents and how many terms and years they served, primary sources, a list of the 50 states and the order they entered the union, and a glossary.

Teacher Editions Parts 1 & 2 include comprehensive instruction for teaching each lesson and how to correlate each lesson with the Textbook and Activities book. Teacher editions also have a reduced copy of the student pages with teacher notes wrapped around them. Every chapter begins with an overview for each lesson in the chapter (objectives, resources used in each lesson, and assessment check points). Each lesson has a four-step teaching cycle (engage, instruct, apply, and assess). Biblical worldview discussion includes these five themes: freedom, individuality, equality, growth, and religion. Instructional aids, differentiated instruction, and chapter review are also included to help aid in retention and test preparation. BJU Press Trove is a digital resource for classroom teachers and not available to homeschoolers. However, Homeschool Hub is specifically for homeschool parents to access the digital resources to support the lessons.

The Teacher Edition Companion is designed to help simplify the lessons for homeschoolers. The front of the guide gives a quick overview of each chapter and lesson. Then in a one-page format for each lesson, there are page numbers along with a visual representation of the pages covered, reading check questions (with answers), objectives, Biblical worldview shaping, required materials, and assignment options. This helps parents tailor the lessons to their child’s needs. While the Teacher Edition has more extensive teacher help, the companion guide gives you a big picture view of every lesson. The guide is not sold separately and is only included through the purchase of a teacher guide.

A consumable companion to the student text is the Activities Manual. Providing a one-page activity for each lesson, students might complete true/false statements, sequencing events, fill in the blank using word banks, matching vocabulary words to their definitions, mapping exercises, multiple choice questions, primary source activities, and more. Chapter and quiz reviews are also included. The spiral-bound Activities Manual Answer Key includes all the pages in the Activities Manual with answers in red.

Assessments include two quizzes and a test for each chapter. The Assessments Answer Key contains a copy of the quizzes and tests with answers in red. ~ Gina
