Description

BJU Writing & Grammar 2 Homeschool Kit includes the Teacher Edition & Companion, Student Worktext, Assessments, and Assessments Answer Key. Students learn grammar and writing through a biblical worldview. Writing exercises incorporate planning, drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing. The different genres of writing covered include poetry, narrative, opinion, and informative. Grammar chapters teach parts of speech, sentence structure, and mechanics. Journal and Reflection writing opportunities focus on the biblical theme in each chapter. Instructions on how to access free digital resources through the Homeschool Hub are included in the kit.

Each chapter in the Teacher Edition begins with a lesson plan overview, including chapter objectives, resources and worktext pages used in each lesson, and an assessment schedule. Reduced pages of the Student Worktext with answers are included. Complete instruction for every lesson is wrapped around the student worktext pages. Each lesson implements a teaching cycle (Engage: Using different activities to activate prior knowledge; Instruct: Direct discussion and instruction; Apply: Guided practice and independent practice; and Assess: Using Journal & Reflection activities). Chapters alternate between grammar and writing instruction. Mentor texts (short excerpts) are used to model good sentence structure and quality writing. Biblical Worldview Shaping is implemented throughout lessons and focuses on order, creativity, respect, and responsibility. Differentiated instruction makes it easy to teach all types of learners.

The Teacher Edition Companion is designed to help simplify the lessons for homeschoolers. The front of the guide has a quick overview of each chapter and lesson. The one-page lesson plan includes the page numbers the lesson covers in the Teacher Edition and Worktext pages. A visual representation of the Student Worktext and any Instructional Aids are on the right sidebar. The content of each page includes Objectives, Biblical Worldview Shaping, Resource and Required Materials, Preparation Instructions (if needed), and Assignment Options. The guide also gives parents instruction on how to access the Homeschool Hub that contains digital resources to support the lessons specifically for homeschool parents. While the Teacher Edition has more extensive teacher help, the companion guide gives you a big-picture view of every lesson. The guide is not sold separately and is only included through the purchase of a teacher guide.

The colorful Student Worktext allows students to practice what they learn. Chapters begin with an Essential Question that helps kids focus on the big idea for the chapter. A reminder of the new content learned, with examples, is provided in each lesson along with practice to strengthen retention. Journaling and Reflection pages provide a writing activity based on the biblical theme. Writing assignments are structured and provide graphic organizers and models. Lines have a dotted midline to help with proper handwriting. Chapter and cumulative reviews are also included. A short thesaurus and list of abbreviations are in the back.

The Assessment Book includes an extra review page for most grammar lessons and “Write It Right” exercises provide additional practice in writing. Fifteen chapter tests are included to assess learning. Pages are black and white. The Assessment Answer Key contains a copy of the Assessment Book pages with answers in red. ~ Gina
