Making Connections in Literature (4th edition), gives students the reading strategies and literary skills they need to comprehend, analyze, interpret, and compare texts of different genres. Students will look at both contemporary and classic selections and complete a full-length study of the novel Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt. Evaluate literature in light of God’s Word with BJU Press Literature. All levels offer carefully selected excerpts or short stories of Christian and religiously neutral literary selections in multiple genres. The middle grades organize studies by themes. Grades 7 and up include one full-length work to study. As the series progresses, goals shift from reading for pleasure to reading for wisdom, then to analytical reading, delving more deeply into literary analysis in the high school levels. The first two high school years instruct in literary elements, with a Romeo and Juliet study in grade 10.
