Looking for a way to teach letters and sounds? This activity is often a precursor to a phonics program. Each page (sometimes 2 pages) teaches a letter of the alphabet with a handwriting area to trace the letter (or number) in upper and lower case, coloring illustrations that start with the sound, and saying words that start with the sound. At the bottom of every page is the alphabet with the letter circled. Since the book does not teach in alphabetical order, this is especially helpful. The sequence is unique: S, T, L, B, M, G, H, A, P, C, N, O, D, R, F, E, U, K, V, J, I, Q, W, X, Y, Z. As you progress through the book, short words using the letters learned appear and you begin to identify upper and lower case of a variety of letters, not just the new one.
