Meeting the needs of young middle school students, Living Healthy , is an all-in-one, flexible, one-semester health curriculum written from a Christian perspective. Topics covered include exercise, nutrition, personal health and environmental health and safety. Each lesson includes important words to know at the beginning, Scripture copy work, physical exercise plans, topical readings, a related worksheet or hands-on activity and optional bonus activities or tests. Children are introduced to the dangers of alcohol and tobacco from an age-appropriate, Christian worldview. Also covered are vaccines and alternative treatment options (acupuncture, essential oils, and treatments rooted in the traditions of false religions). Parents are encouraged to preview and adapt the information to meet their family needs. Also within the safety unit is the importance of personal boundaries and gun safety.
As an all-in-one resource, the softcover Textbook includes the student readings, teacher notes and answer keys, activity supply list and student activity pages that are reproducible for your family. Created for homeschoolers, the author has designed the program to be student independent, with lessons roughly 20 minutes in length (excluding recipes and physical exercise). Occasional activities require adult supervision-for example internet research. Activities are easy to complete at home and use household items –for example assembling a first aid kit and creating emergency plans for fires and natural disasters. A one-semester schedule is included, with the flexibility to extend the program to one year by following a 2-Day per week schedule (a second semester schedule is in the back of the Text). This is a well-done middle school health program that helps children learn to make healthy choices and habits that last a lifetime. Reproducible for immediate family use.
