Discover the beauty of God's universe with this one-year elective course. It can be used as a stand-alone elective or as a complement to a high school Physics course. Beginning with the mysteries of the universe, this course explores the history of astronomy, our solar system, the sun, moon, orbital mechanics, telescopes, dwarf planets, the universe, stars, galaxies, and celestial navigation. Two modules are also devoted to a study of the planets. The text provides a total of 14 modules, which gives the student about 2 ½ weeks to complete each module for a one-year overview of astronomy.
Considered an all-in-one course, the softcover Textbook contains everything the student needs. The course is designed to encourage self-study, so it is written to the student and includes ‘On Your Own' Questions (OYO). While there are no math requirements for the course, where appropriate the readings are supported by related mathematical equations. Within the text, the author works out every mathematical explanation in detail making it understandable for students. For learners with upper-level math skills, some OYO questions are math centric. Students do not need to complete these questions to receive credit for this course. Answers to the ‘On Your Own' Questions are included in the back of the book.
There are no labs/lab kits and no tests for this course. If you chose to use this as a stand-alone elective course, you may wish to have the student create projects, design experiments or complete some other activity to assess learning for the transcript. 490 pgs, pb. ~Deanne
