Paired Passages for grade 4 offers pairs of nonfiction and fiction passages for students to compare and contrast. Aligned to state standards, students will read high-interest passages about topics such as human and animal migration, exotic animals, White House pets, fireflies, and more.

Help your students meet rigorous college- and career-ready expectations by improving reading comprehension skills. Paired Passages helps students meet and exceed reading standards by teaching them to compare and contrast:

When students finish reading a pair of passages, they will rely on the text to complete the accompanying questions and activities.

Category Description for Paired Passages

Students are given the opportunity to compare and contrast several reading passages in a variety of genres and subjects, such as science and social studies. They will do fiction/ non-fiction comparisons, fiction/fiction and non-fiction/non-fiction. Attention to detail is the focus here. After reading a passage, students answer a few questions before making their comparisons. An assessment rubric and answers in each book can be used by the student for self-checking or the teacher for grading. Perforated pages are reproducible for a single classroom/family.
