Keep Going with Latin is the natural follow-up, continuing your Latin instruction in the same casual format. Practice sentences get longer, but you are still adding one new word per lesson until lesson 100. At this point, the study goes deeper and your student will be familiar with the first three declensions and all four conjugations, but only in the present tense. The author says this is not going to be a full high school credit due to the unorthodox presentation of the language. However, it would make for a solid introduction to high school Latin. Be sure to use the high-quality audio recording available on Youtube or mp3 files at http://www.gettingstartedwithlatin.com/ for pronunciation models to follow. Keep Going with Latin
Description
is a book that teaches beginning Latin gradually yet systematically. This unique method was designed specifically to help homeschooled and self-taught students overcome the obstacles they face when studying Latin at home. In each lesson, after learning something new, you can immediately apply what you've learned by translating the fun practice sentences. To check your work, refer to the answer key in the back of the book. To hear the words and exercises pronounced, listen to the free audio recordings from this website. If you need extra help there are also free audio recordings called Author's Commentary Recordings that explain each lesson. As you go, use the knowledge you have gained to speak Latin as you would any other language. This will help you learn Latin faster and better.
These Getting Started With foreign language courses were written with the homeschooled student in mind. They are an efficient way to introduce your students to a foreign language. You will cover basics of how to learn a language such as pronunciation, gender, formal vs. informal language, some pronouns, beginner vocabulary, expressions which have a cultural element, and other useful basics. Courses offered include Spanish, French, German, Russian, Latin, and Ancient Greek.
While there is not enough content here for a full high school credit, after
completing this book, your student would be well-prepared for a high school level
foreign language program. Tests can be done by backing up to the previous
lesson and having your student translate the exercises there. A parent can use
the answer key to grade these, or have the student correct their own work.
These are a good option for upper elementary or middle-grade students (and
their parents) to see if they are really interested in the further study of a
language. Helpful glossaries are included.
