In the Student Book, for each lesson, there is a reading assignment then exercises to be completed. Journal pages are found at the back of the student book for additional notes and facts they may have found. There are 2 to 3 pages per lesson.

The Mammals Student Guide contains questions based upon What is a Mammal?, What is the Animal Kingdom?, and The World of Animals. The answers are to be found in the Teacher Guide.
The lessons in the Student Guide are centered around different groups of mammals such as marsupials, lagomorphs, etc. Students are assigned readings from the texts for each lesson. Exercises require students to answer questions on general features of those groups and asks the students to sketch them as well. There are review notes at the end of the exercises.
