Description

The 8th reader (4h) in the Abeka® reading program Grade 4 helps students travel via story and poem west of the Mississippi across 4 regions of the US (Southwest, West Coast, Mountains, and Plains). Some of the Western plays and stories will be headin’ plain as day into the concepts of dialect and idioms. Students will also learn about and compare text structures such as descriptive, sequential, comparison/contrast, and problem/solution. Students are also encouraged to collaborate with others and present the play they’ve read, “The Daylight Bandit.” Periodically, story locations are “mapped” to help students make geographical connections. Students will spend time learning poetry devices such as meter, rhyme scheme, comparison/contrast, and more. Pair this alongside the comparable book Road Trip East (item 061019), to create a unique geography-themed reading unit. For answers to comprehension questions and teacher direction, see the Reading 4 Answer Key with Literary Development and Enrichment Activities. This is the Homeschool Teacher Resource. 196 pgs, pb. ~ Ruth
