in the Abeka® reading program Grade 4 helps students travel via story and poem
east of the Mississippi across 4 regions of the US (New England to the
Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Great Lakes). The 39 readings highlight
location-focused themes including poetry from Frost and Fannie Crosby,
Scripture retellings from Daniel 6, stories from Robert Lawson, and more.
Periodically, story locations are “mapped” to help students make geographical
connections. Students will spend time learning poetry devices such as meter,
rhyme scheme, comparison/contrast, and more. Pair this alongside the comparable
