The Van Gogh Picture Study Portfolio from Simply
Charlotte Mason introduces an amazing artist who was also a very troubled man.
Through the short living biography, children will gain an understanding of a
talented man who created nearly 900 oil paintings and hundreds of drawings and
watercolors. Parents will appreciate the “big picture” view of him that remains
child-friendly and age appropriate.
Art appreciation often begins by studying a picture, and
these quality portfolios from Simply Charlotte Mason provide the tools
for success. Each portfolio contains 8 full-color pictures by the chosen
artist, a living biography of the artist, step-by-step instructions for picture
study, discussion ideas around each picture, inspiration from Charlotte Mason,
and more. As an enrichment activity, each portfolio will take 6 weeks to
complete. One picture is studied each week, with parents having freedom to
choose 6 pictures for study. The picture study will take 15–20 minutes, and
once completed the picture is displayed for the week, allowing students to
become familiar with it. Each portfolio includes additional book lists for
learning more about the artist.
